Mata Amritanandamayi Math Press

22 August 2005, Amritapuri

Deep Regret and Grave Concern
The Mata Amritanandamayi Math—which stands and works for love, compassion, brotherhood and world peace and harmony—views the incident with deep regret and grave concern.
The statements issued in some media saying that the culprit had been a resident of the Amritapuri Ashram and was recently expelled are completely false. He is not associated with the Ashram in any way. The nature of his arrival at Amritapuri, the motivation for his attack and his stories are all unclear.
The culprit says that he has been trying to have Amma's darshan for the past 15 years but has never been able to do so. This claim is ridiculous, as everyone knows, Amma personally sees one and all who come to her—regardless of caste, religion, nationality or social status—and she does not stop receiving people until she has seen the last person.
The legal system has taken the case and will do the needful. Amma has told her devotees all over the world to be patient and calm. They should not create any problems in the name of this incident. She says that she will continue to receive people in the same way and stand for communal harmony, social service, world peace and universal
brotherhood, without any fear.
